How do I start to make a piece of jewellery from scratch?

It is not always obvious how to go about making a piece of jewellery from scratch.  If you don't know where to start, Haruni Fine Jewels is here to help.  There are basically 3 simple ways you can can go about this and I with my team can take you through the process step by step.

How do you start?

The bespoke process basically starts with a conversation to establish some basic outlines before going deeper. Before you start on this journey, you will need to have an idea of your budget and some idea of what you want you want to end up with.  The rest can be developed through during the design consultancy process.

There are 3 main ways to have a bespoke piece of jewellery made exclusively for you, or someone as a gift.

  • Create a piece of jewellery with a design in mind.
  • Choose a stone and have a piece created around that.
  • Take an old piece of jewellery and have it remade into something new.

Starting with a Design

Screenshot 2019-03-14 at 08.46.08When we say starting with a design, it doesn't' mean you need to know exactly what you actually want. You'll work with one of our designers who will help you discover what it is you actually want to have made.  If you have a definite idea, then that's great, but if you have no idea, that's fine too.

As we go through this process, you will hopefully see your design come to life.  If this is the road you want to go down, take a little time to get inspired.  Visit our Pinterest page  for more inspiration, then get in touch to bring your idea to life.

Starting with a Stone

IMG_5293 2It's sometimes the case that people either inherit or are given an actual loose gem, or have been on holiday to somewhere like Sri Lanka or Thailand and have come back with a souvenir gemstone that they want to have wade into something when they get home.  Occasionally we have had clients buy gemstones  from our website for their partners, knowing they like that particular gem, but not really knowing what to do with it.  This is when the design process becomes a little different, as you become guided by the gem itself.

Simply let us know what the stone is and we can explore the possibilities of what to have it set in to.

Start With an Old Piece of Jewellery or Heirloom

According to Bonham’s Auction house, in the UK alone there is over £50 million pounds worth of unwanted jewellery gathering dust in Britain’s homes and attics.Perhaps you are struggling to know what to do with jewellery you bought years ago, or have inherited from a loved one, but never wear.  It could also be that you have something you know your children would never wear, but you still want to pass on to them. Em-Creamic-before-and-after-1

The potential to make new jewellery from old, is exciting and quite original. Those old diamond studs you never wear, can be the perfect side stones to a a sapphire ring.  Your old engagement ring could make the perfect pendant, as you've chosen to upgrade your original ring, but don't want to lose the sentimentality of your old one.  You might have inherited grandma's old engagement ring, but can't imagine wearing it the way it is today.  So what do you do?
This is where we come in.  Together we can look at a piece, see what can be used and for what.

Below is an emerald cabochon ring we remade.  The results speak for themselves.
